We at NSF Unidata are pleased to announce that we have now received funding from the U. S. National Science Foundation (NSF) for the next year of the period of performance of our five-year award. This positive development allows us to end the current furlough of our staff and resume our operations. While we are grateful to receive our next increment of funding, we are mindful of the challenges that lie ahead with our continued funding given the administration’s proposed FY26 budget that cuts NSF’s budget by over fifty percent.
We extend our sincere gratitude to NSF for their continued support of the NSF Unidata program. We also wish to sincerely thank the community for its outpouring of support and words of encouragement during this challenging period.
Given the federal budget outlook, we will work with our staff, committees, and community on aligning our future priorities and goals with the available funding. To that end, the ongoing 2025 NSF Unidata Community Survey will provide crucial input on the community’s current and future needs.
We appreciate the patience and dedication of our staff, stakeholders, and community members during this period of uncertainty.
